I'm a big fan of keeping it real, not trying to sell you anything you don't need and just putting out informative and entertaining content.
Luckily I have some pretty capable mates that do a lot of the hunting while I piss around with the cameras.

Hunting Murrays Beach, Stewart Island

This was my first trip to Stewart Island, we spent most of our time chasing whitetail deer with a bit of exploring, fishing etc to mix things up a bit. Murrays Beach is a hunting block on the North East of the island.

Wilderness Tahr Ballot, Landsborough, Arbor Rift 2021

Ricky, Jeff and Yax head south to hunt one of the wilderness ballot blocks and try to catch the beginning of the Tahr rut. We had this block for first period 2020 but due to lockdown we had to roll it over to this year. I enjoyed making this edit and its pretty cool seeing the trip unfold and a few animals hitting the deck.

Had another crack at the Te Puna Big Four Competition. Hunting four species over four days. Definitely a different game. Hunting to order and it causes bit of self imposed pressure to get animals on the deck. Overall a cool experience catching up with mates and spending some time chasing game.

Same pond, Same shooters different year and it was the best numbers we have seen yet. Matt, Ryan and Myself shooting our three man limit of 30 Mallards. Yax and I catch up with Jeff and take his boat out for a couple of days fishing. We didn't come away with what we were after but it was a good shake out and no complaints about the weather.

Not to many videos showing the big hill access and Ruahine hut so I figured I would make a little video of our pre xmas trip. It was our first time up there so took a bit to orientate ourselves, but we soon got our bearings and found a few animals. Stags in velvet and hinds with fawns so nothing was shot.

Just a quick video, of replacing a door, exciting stuff haha. No hunting, just mincing around in the Ruahines. The door we put in on our rebuild started to swell up until it could no longer close so I set about sorting it out.

Awesome vid. Unreal encounter shooting a couple whitetail like that! Just after you mention the noisey apple you can hear a whitetail buck grunt.

Took my jetboat up there about 10 years ago, was a fun trip , a few more logs in it now. That water drive was dug by hand.
Nice brother you took me for my gun license in palmy hey quick question I've just purchased a tikka 6.5prc and cutting the barrel down was going to go to 22" to keep velocity etc up but I see yours is 20" is there buggar all difference in the 2inchs. Kind regards my bro!
Hey Josh, your onto it with the less barrel less velocity. I haven't got the actual numbers and will ask Yax to reply if he's got anything. I took 2 inch off my .308 and Yax took his 7mm08 right down to a bush pig style and they both still shoot well out to 300m. But same again i don't have any numbers to back that up and they are all different calibre's so hardly comparable.
From Yax: I get 2830ft/s MV out of my 20” barrel and a mate gets 2900ft/s out of his 24” barrel both shooting ELD-X 143grn. So negligible really. Excess Powder burn off and gyroscopic stability are probably bigger considerations with a shorter barrel especially in a lighter barrel of the Stsndard Tika vs our carbon wrapped heavy barrel. Also changing barrel length will have an effect on harmonics. It’s hard to say how much it will effect the standard Tika barrel. If weight and length is a big consideration for alpine style hunting then it might be worth the risk of going right down to 20”. Otherwise he could go 22” to start with and see how it shoots compared to the 24” factory length. If it has limited effect then he could take a further 2” off it.
If you’re suppressing it the shorter barrel is obviously preferable but still a balancing act
